| ISSUE# 051 | FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2026 | HENRY COUNTY GA |
Good morning, Henry County.
It's Friday, it's May 1st, and the weekend is yours!
Before we get into today's stories, we want to take a moment.
Today, Georgia says goodbye to Congressman David Scott, who represented parts of Henry County for more than two decades. A public memorial begins at 11 a.m. at the Georgia State Capitol Rotunda, with public viewing open until 5 p.m.
He spent decades in public service, including work to protect access to the ballot and advocate for communities across Georgia.
Free parking is available in the South Deck, and the nearest MARTA stop is Georgia State. If you'd like to pay your respects, today is the day.
Today's issue has something for everyone. A warning for Georgia homeowners you don’t want to ignore, a water conservation heads up from the HCWA, and a Harvard study about AI that might change how you think about your next doctor's visit. Plus a Tales from the Perch encore for our newer readers.
The Weekend Eye also drops today with Floetry, Bruce Springsteen, Kids Fishing Day, a local book sale, and your full weekend lineup.
Now let's get into it.🦅👁️

Criminals Are Stealing Georgia Homes by Forging Deeds. Here's How to Protect Yours
GEORGIA — It sounds like something out of a movie, but it's happening across Georgia right now. Criminals are forging property deeds, filing them at county clerk offices, and legally becoming the owners of homes they never bought. They then sell the property or take out loans against it, leaving the real owner to find out months later when bills stop arriving, or a stranger shows up at the door. Absentee and out-of-state property owners are especially vulnerable. The good news is that Georgia offers a free early warning system called FANS. Find out more here
Henry County's Water Authority Has a Warning. And It's Worth Taking Seriously.
HENRY COUNTY — The Henry County Water Authority is urging residents to be more intentional about water use as the county continues to feel the effects of drought conditions. The HCWA says simple habits — fixing leaks, running dishwashers only when full, watering lawns in the early morning — can make a real difference in how the county manages its water supply during dry stretches. With Henry County's population growing rapidly, water demand is rising at the same time supply is under pressure. Conservation now helps protect the county's long-term water future. An AI Just Beat ER Doctors in a Real Hospital Study
Harvard researchers tested an AI model against experienced ER doctors using real patient cases, and it won. The AI correctly identified conditions doctors had missed, from the moment patients arrived at triage all the way through admission. What makes this significant is that it wasn't a controlled lab test. It worked in an actual busy emergency room, with real patients and real stakes. Read more at GPB News

Tales from the Perch Encore 🦅
When we first published this story, The Eagle Eye Digest had just 200 subscribers. Now that our community has grown to 2,000, we thought this one deserved a second look. If you missed it the first time, you're in for a treat. And if you've already read it, some stories are just worth reading twice.
Finding Balance Through Pizza In McDonough
A corporate career gave Tony success, but a neighborhood pizzeria brought him back to what mattered most.
MCDONOUGH - There’s an irony to Tony Eiermann’s story. He was born in Chicago, raised mostly in Georgia, and spent more than twenty years in corporate America. Yet today, he owns Da Vinci’s NY Style Pizza, one of the most authentic New York-style pizzerias you’ll probably find anywhere in Henry County.
“I pretty much consider myself to be from Atlanta,” he says. “The Chicago roots are probably a lot shallower than the Georgia roots.”
Tony purchased the restaurant in September 2024. It’s been part of the community since 2005, but now it carries his imprint. Red and white tablecloths. Faux brick walls. A Times Square photo he’s kept in his office for years now hangs proudly inside.
He says the local Chamber of Commerce has been helpful during the transition, offering support and connections as he stepped into ownership.
“I was in New York a lot,” he says of his corporate career. “New York and New Jersey area, I was up there a lot. I know that culture.”
And it shows. The slices are old-world style, thin and foldable, the kind that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a neighborhood pizzeria off Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.
When asked what made him step into entrepreneurship, he laughs. “Temporary insanity.”
But the joke carries truth. The pressure, the travel, the round-the-clock demands were relentless. The time away from family was adding up.
Owning a restaurant isn’t easy. The days are long, and the responsibility is heavy. But it’s his.
“I’ve been saying for years I wanted to buy a restaurant,” he says. “But I wanted it to be a pizza place.”
Corporate may have paid the bills, but pizza restored balance and appreciation for what mattered most. Here’s to La Dolce Vita!
