Good morning, Henry County.
Nothing pairs better than a fresh cup of coffee and the Eagle Eye Digest on a Wednesday morning.
Social Security's trustees just released a new report, and the timeline is getting shorter. We're breaking down what it means for Georgia families.
We also have a fresh warning about Georgia's melanoma rates just as summer heats up, a fishing spot that more than 1,400 Henry County residents already know about, and a Hall of Famer headed to Hampton.
Plus, in case you missed Tuesday's Tales From The Perch, we're bringing it back.
Let's get into it. π¦ ποΈ

Social Security Just Got a Shorter Runway. What It Means for You
GEORGIA - The 2026 trustees report is in. The retirement fund now runs dry in 2032, three months sooner than last year, the culprit: the new federal tax law.
The program doesn't collapse, it cuts. For the average Georgia retiree, a 22% reduction is $374 less every month. That's a car payment. Congress can fix it. They just haven't. Read the full breakdown from CNBC
Georgia's Melanoma Problem Is Getting Worse. And Summer Just Started
GEORGIA - Nearly 3,000 Georgians are diagnosed with melanoma every year. That puts us among the worst states in the nation. About 200 don't survive it.
Summer is peak season. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, go outside early or late, and skip the midday sun. One more thing the report doesn't say but should: if you have darker skin, you're four times more likely to catch melanoma at a later stage. That's a screening gap, not a biology problem. Check all of your skin. Read the full story from Georgia Public Broadcasting
Teens Hit Summer Break With Nowhere To Go
HENRY COUNTY - School's out. Most teens have nowhere to go. The mall is mostly gone, cheap hangout spots are disappearing, and when teens do gather in public, cities respond with curfews that research says don't even work.
Henry County's $55M Aquatic Center opens to the public June 20. The ribbon cutting is Thursday at 10 AM. Not the whole answer, but it's something. Read the Axios story on teens and public spaces
Chipper Jones Is Coming to Hampton
HAMPTON - Hall of Famer Chipper Jones is giving NASCAR's Cup Series drivers the command to fire engines at EchoPark Speedway on July 12. Atlanta's Night Race is right here in Henry County. Saturday night brings the Rising Stars series too. Get tickets for the Quaker State 400

Brisket, Belief & Building Something Bigger

STOCKBRIDGE - David Maiolo didn't just dream about barbecue. He worked at a BBQ restaurant for three years for free.
"Not because I'm rich," he laughed. "I was paying for an education."
That education eventually led him to open Disruption BBQ on Highway 138 in Stockbridge, where the scent of oak smoke drifts across the parking lot and the brisket's dark bark tells you everything you need to know before you take a bite. Read the full story here.

Tussahaw Reservoir: Henry County's Best-Kept Fishing Secret

LOCUST GROVE - Most people driving through Henry County have never heard of Tussahaw Reservoir. But 1,415 active permit holders know exactly where to go.
Tussahaw is a 1,466-acre reservoir managed by the Henry County Water Authority, open to the public for fishing right now through November 29. Open days are Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7 AM to 7 PM. The catch: bream, bass, and catfish. No gas-powered boats, which keeps the water quiet. Electric and trolling motors only.
Access is through the Tussahaw Island public use area at the end of Collins Way off Peeksville Road. The island has a disability-accessible dock, a walking trail, the Bellamy family pavilion, restrooms, and free life jacket rentals. Permit holders can bring one guest at no charge.
To fish, you need a HCWA reservoir use permit and a Georgia Fishing License. Permits are $50 for one year, $85 for two years. Seniors, veterans, and residents with disabilities pay $25 for a one-year permit. Purchase at HCWA headquarters at 1695 Highway 20 West in McDonough or online.
1,415 people already know this spot. Now you do too.
Surgery Recovery Starts Before Surgery
Many patients prepare extensively for the procedure itself β but recovery preparation often gets overlooked.
Healing increases demand for nutrients involved in tissue repair, immune support, collagen production, and recovery. HealFast was designed specifically to support the body before and after surgery with physician-formulated nutritional support created for the recovery process.
Instead of scrambling afterward, many patients now prepare for recovery before surgery even happens.
Because supporting recovery starts long before the procedure is over.
