MCDONOUGH - This week marks 4 years of Sweet Stacey’s in McDonough, and owner Stacey McWhorter says the journey began with one unexpected moment. While planning her wedding, she was quoted over $1,000 for a cake, so she decided to learn how to decorate one herself.

“I knew how to bake. I just needed to learn how to decorate,” she says. “Everybody at the wedding was like, Stacey, you should really do this.”

After years of baking for friends and family, Stacey opened her storefront in February 2022, pouring everything she had into her dream. Her mornings now begin before sunrise, with cupcakes, cheesecakes, banana pudding, and gluten-free and vegan treats ready by the time doors open.

“I can’t penalize someone because of an allergy they were born with,” she says.

Beyond the sweets, Stacey is known for showing up for her community, giving leftover pastries to first responders and grieving families, and quietly working within a parent’s budget so every celebration still feels special.

“I just like to treat people how I like to be treated.”

Even on long days, one thing keeps her going. “When I show someone their cake and their face lights up, that small piece of joy means everything.”

Many recipes trace back generations, passed down from her grandmother and mother. And despite running a bakery, Stacey laughs at one surprising truth. “I really don’t eat sweets. I just stick to the recipe.”

If her business had a personality, she says it would be simple: “Happy.”
