ISSUE# 043 TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2026 HENRY COUNTY GA

Good morning, Henry County ☀️

It’s a lighter news day, but there’s still plenty worth keeping an eye on.

We’re getting a first look at what summer fun will cost at the new waterpark, today marks an important voting deadline, and dry conditions across Georgia are starting to show up in ways we can all feel.

Plus, Earth Day is this week, with a local event happening Saturday if you’re looking for a reason to get outside.

And we’re bringing back a Tales from the Perch: Encore, the story of Stacey McWhorter, who we met just before her fourth anniversary at her McDonough shop. It’s a reminder that sometimes the sweetest stories start in the most unexpected ways.

Let’s get into it! 🦅

New Waterpark Pricing Is Out in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY — The county has released official pricing and hours for the new Aquatic Center and Waterpark, set to open in June with year-round and seasonal options. Daily admission to the outdoor waterpark will be $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents, while the indoor aquatic center starts at $5 for youth and $10 for adults.

For families across Henry County, it’s an early look at what summer fun will cost at the county’s newest attraction. More info here

Georgia Is Getting Drier. What It Could Mean for Henry County

HENRY COUNTY — Drought conditions are worsening across parts of Georgia as rainfall continues to come up short, raising concerns about dry ground and higher wildfire risk.

For folks in Henry County, that could mean browner lawns, more pollen in the air, and possibly water restrictions if things don’t turn around soon. It’s also a good time to be extra careful with outdoor burning as we head into warmer days. Read more at Atlanta News First

Locust Grove Honors Former Mayor Robert Price

LOCUST GROVE — The city recently honored former Mayor Robert S. Price, recognizing his years of leadership and lasting impact on the community. Price, who served as mayor for over a decade, was remembered for his dedication to growth, public service, and improving the quality of life for residents.

Earth Day Is Tomorrow. Here’s How Henry County Is Marking It

HENRY COUNTY — Earth Day is tomorrow, but the celebration is continuing into the weekend with local events focused on conservation, community, and the outdoors. One of the biggest is happening Saturday at Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, where families can spend the day learning about wildlife, environmental protection, and even create their own “Kindness Rocks.”

For Henry County residents, it’s a chance to get outside, give back, and be a little more mindful of how we care for the environment, especially as dry conditions continue across the region. Read more at Henry County Water Authority

Sweet Milestone In McDonough As Sweet Stacey’s Bakery Turns Four

MCDONOUGH - This week marks four years of Sweet Stacey’s in McDonough, and owner Stacey McWhorter says the journey began with one unexpected moment. While planning her wedding, she was quoted over $1,000 for a cake, so she decided to learn how to decorate one herself.

“I knew how to bake. I just needed to learn how to decorate,” she says. “Everybody at the wedding was like, Stacey, you should really do this.”

After years of baking for friends and family, Stacey opened her storefront in February 2022, pouring everything she had into her dream. Her mornings now begin before sunrise, with cupcakes, cheesecakes, banana pudding, and gluten-free and vegan treats ready by the time doors open.

“I can’t penalize someone because of an allergy they were born with,” she says.

Beyond the sweets, Stacey is known for showing up for her community, giving leftover pastries to first responders and grieving families, and quietly working within a parent’s budget so every celebration still feels special.

“I just like to treat people how I like to be treated.”

Even on long days, one thing keeps her going. “When I show someone their cake and their face lights up, that small piece of joy means everything.”

Many recipes trace back generations, passed down from her grandmother and mother. And despite running a bakery, Stacey laughs at one surprising truth. “I really don’t eat sweets. I just stick to the recipe.”

If her business had a personality, she says it would be simple: “Happy.”
