Good morning, Henry County.
Hope you made it through the overnight storms safely.
Flash flooding rolled through parts of metro Atlanta overnight, roads are still slick this morning, and more rain is expected through early afternoon before things finally begin drying out.
Before the day gets away from you, there are a few important stories worth your attention this morning, including one major deadline ending tomorrow, rising summer costs, and a Tales From the Perch feature readers have been sharing since yesterday.
Letโs get into it. ๐ฆ ๐๏ธ

I-75 Comment Window Closes Tomorrow
HENRY COUNTY - GDOT wants to add 41 miles of truck-only commercial lanes on I-75, ending right at SR 20 in Henry County. This is one of the biggest proposed road changes to hit this corridor in years. The public comment period closes Thursday, May 28. Most people don't know this is happening. You can weigh in online, call (678) 528-7275, or email [email protected]. Here's what GDOT is proposing
Henry County Honors David Scott
STOCKBRIDGE - Yesterday, Henry County held a special marker ceremony at the intersection of East Atlanta Road and Stagecoach Road in Stockbridge to honor the legacy of late Congressman David Scott. He represented Georgia for more than 50 years and became the first Black lawmaker to chair the U.S. House Agriculture Committee. The Board of Commissioners also presented a formal proclamation at their evening meeting. A fitting tribute to one of Henry County's own. Read about the ceremony
Gas Delivered Right to Your Car
ATLANTA - Tired of stopping at the pump? A new metro Atlanta app called Gas Dash delivers fuel directly to your parked car โ at home, at work, at Walmart, wherever. You pick the fuel type, enter how many gallons you want, and a driver is on the way. Available 24/7. You pay the going rate plus a delivery fee. Metro Atlanta gas just hit $4.03 a gallon, and with the state gas tax suspension ending June 3, this one is worth knowing about. Not yet in Henry County, but it's in our backyard and expanding. Convenience comes at a price though. Drivers still pay delivery fees on top of fuel costs. See how it works
Georgia Kids Are Losing Therapy Access
GEORGIA - This story has been building for weeks, but it's worth putting on your radar if it hasn't been already. Two of Georgia's three Medicaid managed care companies, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan, have cut reimbursement rates to therapists by 20%. Children with physical disabilities and speech delays are the ones most at risk of losing access. Therapists can't afford to stay in the Medicaid network at those rates, so families are being turned away. Henry County families are feeling this too. If your child receives Medicaid-funded therapy, talk to your provider now about what's changing. Read the full story
Your Cookout Budget Just Got Smoked
GEORGIA - Ground beef is up 14%, now averaging $6.89 a pound, up from $5.23 last year. Ten burgers that cost about $16.90 last summer will run you $19.60 this July 4th. A full cookout for 10 now costs $71.22 up 30% from five years ago. The USDA says prices will keep climbing through 2027. Summer grilling season just got a lot more expensive. See the full breakdown

The Egg Roll Daddy Hustle

MCDONOUGH - Rain is bad news for food trucks.
On the morning of our interview at Southern Belle Farm, dark clouds hung over the property for hours before the weather finally broke. For Jerry and Linda Suwann, owners of Egg Roll Daddy, it was one more thing to worry about.
โWe work every day,โ Linda said. โSometimes until one or two in the morning.โ
The pace picks up quickly once orders start coming in. Wings hit the fryer. Egg rolls are sliced and covered in sauce. Customers wait near the window for Korean bulgogi rolls, Jamaican jerk rolls, fried rice, and loaded fries.

The couple built the business around flavors they personally love eating.
โWe like to eat all different types of food,โ Linda said. โWhy not try it in something else in an egg roll?โ
โA lot of trial and error,โ Jerry added.
These days, people drive from all over metro Atlanta to find the truck.
But Jerry says the real focus has always been consistency.
โOur food is never hit and miss,โ he said. โEverythingโs measured.โ
Then he laughed a little.
โYour reaction tells everything,โ he said. โI look at their face.โ
The business has grown steadily, but it comes with sacrifices. Linda says the couple misses family gatherings and spends most nights cleaning, prepping food, answering emails, or organizing inventory long after events are over.
Still, neither of them talks much about slowing down.
Jerry says a lot of what drives him comes from watching his family come to America from Laos and build a life here.
โThis is better than the American dream,โ he said. โWeโre living our dream.โ
If youโre a foodie in Henry County, thereโs a good chance youโve already heard of Egg Roll Daddy. If not, consider this your wake up call.
