ISSUE# 091 FRIDAY, June 19, 2026 HENRY COUNTY GA

Good morning, neighbor!

Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday honoring the end of slavery in the United States.

We're following the search for a missing Henry County woman, taking a look at one of the closest local races in recent memory, and counting down to the opening of the county's new Aquatic Center this weekend.

We're also revisiting a powerful Father's Day story about a local dad whose personal loss inspired a mission to help other fathers stay healthy, present, and connected to their families.

And don't forget: The Weekend Eye drops later today, packed with Juneteenth celebrations, Father's Day events, live music, festivals, and family-friendly happenings from across Henry County and beyond.

Let's get into it. πŸ¦…πŸ‘οΈ

Henry County Woman Reported Missing

HENRY COUNTY β€” Police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing Henry County woman.

Yawovi Segla was last seen around 4 p.m. Sunday walking away from her home near The Farm Road and North Ola Road in the McDonough area, according to the Henry County Police Department. Police say Segla has an altered mental status and a history of wandering away from home. Authorities remain concerned for her well-being as the search continues.

Why it matters: Someone in the community may have seen Segla or have information. View her photo and see how you can help.

Commissioner Michael Price Holds On by 56 Votes

HENRY COUNTY β€” Incumbent Commissioner Michael Price narrowly defeated challenger Phedra "PT" Thomas in Tuesday's District 4 runoff election, winning by just 56 votes. Price received 50.95% of the vote, one of the closest county races in recent memory.

Why it matters: The razor-thin margin shows just how much every vote matters in local elections, where a few dozen ballots can determine who represents thousands of residents. Read more about the election results here.

McDonough Approves $31.5 Million Budget

MCDONOUGH β€” City leaders have approved a $31.5 million budget for the coming fiscal year, funding police, fire protection, parks, roads, and other city services without a property tax increase. City officials say the budget also supports continued growth and infrastructure improvements as McDonough's population rises.

Why it matters: Whether you realize it or not, the city budget helps determine everything from road maintenance and park upkeep to police staffing and emergency services. This budget affects services you use every day. See what's changing and what's staying the same.

Georgia's QR Code Voting System Gets a Reprieve

GEORGIA β€” Lawmakers are considering a proposal that would keep Georgia's current QR code voting system in place through the 2026 elections. A 2024 law required the system to be replaced by July 1, but state officials say a new system is not ready.

Why it matters: For now, voters would see no major changes at the ballot box while lawmakers continue debating what comes next. Here's why lawmakers are hitting pause.

First Weekend at the Aquatic Center

HENRY COUNTY β€” The county's new Aquatic Center and Water Park officially opens Saturday, marking the first weekend residents can experience one of Henry County's largest recreational investments. With Father's Day on Sunday and temperatures expected to rebound after the storms move through, county officials are expecting strong turnout.

Why it matters: After years of planning and construction, the facility finally opens to the public just in time for summer break. Read more here

A Father's Legacy, A Son's Mission

Maclin Williams and his son. Williams says one of his biggest motivations is helping fathers stay healthy enough to be present for the moments that matter most.

MCDONOUGH - A month before Maclin Williams became a father, he lost his own.

His father died of heart failure at just 59 years old, leaving Williams to navigate fatherhood without the man he expected would be his biggest source of guidance.

More than a decade later, that loss has inspired a mission to help more Henry County dads stay healthy, present, and connected to their families.

Last week, that mission led to the Men's Health to Men's Wealth Conference, bringing together community leaders, mentors, health advocates, and fathers for a day of conversation and support.

"My dad never got the chance to tell me he was proud of the dad I became," Williams said. "But I'll always work to give that chance to other dads out there." Read Maclin's full story and connect with the McDonough Walking Club
