Hours-Long Police Standoff in Stockbridge Ends Peacefully

HENRY COUNTY β€” A hours-long police standoff in a Stockbridge neighborhood came to a peaceful resolution Monday afternoon after a suspect who had barricaded themselves inside a home on Thurman Road in the Great Oaks Branch area finally surrendered to officers. Henry County Police responded to the scene following a domestic call and closed East Atlanta Road during the standoff, affecting traffic in the area. The suspect is now in custody, and East Atlanta Road has since reopened. No injuries were reported.

Why it matters: Situations like this can unfold quickly in residential neighborhoods. Henry County Police's measured response brought a tense situation to a peaceful end without anyone getting hurt. Full details at Atlanta News First β†’

Georgia Just Released a Major Maternal Health Report. Here's Why Henry County Women Should Read It

GEORGIA β€” A state legislative panel has released its final recommendations on maternal and infant health outcomes in Georgia, submitted to the Governor and legislative leadership today. The Georgia Commission on Maternal and Infant Health was created to address the state's persistently high maternal mortality rate, one of the worst in the country.

State Rep. Lauren Daniel of Locust Grove was a lead sponsor of the bill that created the commission, bringing a direct Henry County voice to this work.

Why it matters: For Henry County women and families, these recommendations could shape what maternal care is available, where, and how accessible it is in the years ahead. Read more at GPB News β†’

Georgia Restaurants Must Now Tell You If Your Shrimp Is Imported

GEORGIA β€” Starting tomorrow, July 1, a new Georgia law requires restaurants across the state to disclose when shrimp on the menu is imported rather than wild-caught or domestic. Georgia is one of the top shrimp-producing states in the Southeast and the new law gives diners the information they need to make an informed choice about what they're eating. Whether you're hitting a restaurant in McDonough, Stockbridge, or Hampton this holiday weekend, look for the disclosure on the menu.

Why it matters: Imported shrimp and domestic shrimp are not the same product. Georgia diners now have the right to know what they're ordering, and local restaurants that serve Georgia-caught shrimp finally have a way to say so clearly. Read more at FOX 5 Atlanta β†’

How to Reserve a Henry County Park Pavilion for Your Next Gathering

HENRY COUNTY β€” It's a little too late to reserve a Henry County park pavilion for the Fourth of July weekend, but if you've got a birthday party, church picnic, kids’ day camp event, or neighborhood cookout coming up this summer, now is the perfect time to get ahead of it. Henry County Parks has 12 picnic pavilions available for rent across the county's park system, and here's everything you need to know before you book.

Reservations must be made at least one week in advance and can be booked up to three months ahead of your event. Each rental is for a four-hour block. There’s a $100 refundable deposit required at booking along with a $100 rental fee. Henry County non-residents pay an additional $30. If your event includes a bouncy house, DJ, or other special amenities, a special amenities insurance form has to be completed.

Why it matters: Henry County's parks are some of the most beautiful and well-maintained green spaces in the area. Reserving a pavilion guarantees your group a dedicated shaded space so you can focus on the fun instead of scrambling for a spot. Learn more about Henry County park rentals β†’
