Good morning, Henry County. Happy Cinco de Mayo.
If you're looking for a reason to go out tonight, we've got a full guide to where the county is celebrating right here in today's issue. From downtown Hampton to McDonough's Square, there's something for everyone this Tuesday evening.
But first, some news worth knowing before you head out.
McDonough residents are getting a new line item on their trash bill starting June.
Symphony Park homebuyers are caught in a dispute that has nothing to do with them.
And Georgia Tech researchers just released findings about women's health that our readers deserve to know about.
It turns out Arabia Mountain has been keeping some secrets most of us never knew about.
Now let's get into it.🦅👁️

McDonough Residents, Your Trash Bill Is Going Up 76 Cents in June
MCDONOUGH — The McDonough City Council unanimously approved a 3% sanitation rate increase effective June 1, raising monthly bills from $25.38 to $26.14. The increase is tied to an existing contract with the waste provider, but city leaders say misuse of a key city service is quietly driving costs higher for everyone. There's also something already included in your bill that most McDonough residents don't know they're entitled to. Find out what you're already paying for at Henry Herald
McDonough Is Pumping the Brakes on Symphony Park. Here's What's Holding Up New Homeowners
MCDONOUGH — Buyers are ready to move into Symphony Park but can't because city rules require amenities like the pool and clubhouse to be finished before more homes can be occupied. The builder says the delays are completely out of their hands since a separate developer controls the amenity construction. The council didn't say yes and didn't say no, and the condition they're considering could set a precedent for every future development in McDonough. Read what that condition is at Henry Herald
Menopause Is the Most Neglected Women's Health Topic. Georgia Tech Researchers Explain Why
GEORGIA — Georgia Tech researchers found that while there's plenty of information available about menstruation and pregnancy, reliable health information about menopause becomes much harder to find as women age. The study points to a specific gap that's leaving millions of women without answers during one of the most significant transitions of their lives. What researchers say women should actually be asking their doctors is worth reading.Get the full findings at GPB News
Arabia Mountain Has Been Keeping Secrets

STOCKBRIDGE - Most of us have driven past Arabia Mountain without giving it a second thought. Turns out, we've been missing a lot.
Images of America: Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, released last month, is the first book ever written about this stretch of southeast Metro Atlanta, covering Arabia Mountain, Lithonia, Flat Rock, and Panola Mountain, including parts that stretch into Stockbridge right here in Henry County.
The stories inside are wild. Quarry workers who cut the stone that built the Brooklyn Bridge. Trappist monks in Conyers who marched with Dr. King. Civil rights heroes from Lithonia that most people have never heard of. Over 200 photos, many never before published, bring all of it to life.
The authors aren't outsiders. Jeff Dingler and Brigette Jones both work for the Arabia Alliance, the organization that stewards this land every day. Dingler has written for the Washington Post and New York Magazine. Jones is a Smithsonian-certified historian and one of Garden and Gun's 30 Southern Heroes. They know this place deeply, and it shows.
There's also a never-before-seen photo of then Senator John F. Kennedy tucked inside. We’ll leave it at that.
If you've ever been curious about the history sitting right outside your door, this is the book. It's $24.99 and available now at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and arabiaalliance.org.
