The Eagle Eye Digest, keeping an eye on all things Henry County
Henry County, GA
Issue No. 183

Good morning, Henry County!

It’s Monday. Coffee first, then ballots.

Today: teens stacking up Ivy League credit before they can even rent a car, a tax question on your ballot, a morning set aside to thank our bravest, and a housing market that finally exhaled.

One more thing. The Eagle Eye Table is Thursday, October 29, in McDonough, and we still have a few seats left. Good food, good neighbors, good conversation. Grab your seat before they’re gone.

Let’s get into it. 🦅👁️

Ten days from now, we’re sitting down to dinner.

On October 29, Henry County neighbors will gather at small tables for good food, good conversation, and the chance to meet people they might not otherwise cross paths with.

No networking. No dating agenda. Just dinner and a few new faces.

SCHOOLS

High Schoolers, Ivy League Credit

A graduate in cap and gown raising a diploma in celebration

Thirty-one Henry County students just earned verified college credit from Brown, Cornell, Spelman, Howard and Wharton. They did it before graduation, through NEON, a national honor society that partners with elite universities. Henry is one of only three Georgia districts in the program.

Two Stockbridge High students topped the nation. Jolie Nguyen was national valedictorian in Howard’s Data Science course, and Alexis Cedillo Mora was salutatorian. At Spelman, McDonough High’s Imani Humphries and Venecia McCallum both ranked in the top 1%.

Why it matters: Henry County schools don’t always get the credit they deserve. These kids competed against students from every state and won. That’s a win for every teacher and parent behind them, and a signal to families weighing a move here.

ON THE BALLOT

Six Places to Vote, One Tax to Know

Early voting runs through Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Henry has six early locations, open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with select Saturday hours:

Henry County Administration Building, 140 Henry Pkwy, McDonough
Heritage Hills Library, 606 Hwy 20 W, McDonough
Fairview Library, 1460 Hwy 20 E, Conyers
Hampton Library, 2205 W. Atlanta St., Hampton
Stockbridge Library, 3315 N. Henry Blvd., Stockbridge
Locust Grove Library, 3375 Hwy 42, Locust Grove

Also on your ballot is the FLOST, a one-cent sales tax for fire stations and emergency services.

Why it matters: The fire station that answers your 911 call is on this ballot. Wait times vary by location, so check before you go.

COMMUNITY

One Morning to Say Thank You Out Loud

Two EMS responders walking toward an ambulance, carrying a medical bag

The Henry County Valor Awards return Friday, November 13, at 11 AM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Stockbridge. The Board of Commissioners and the Chamber honor first responders, healthcare workers and public servants who went above and beyond in 2026.

Businesses can sponsor, including as an Award Presenter Sponsor who hands an award to a hero on stage.

Why it matters: First responders show up every day without fanfare. This is the one morning the county thanks them publicly. For businesses, it’s a room full of county leaders and Chamber members.

NEST WATCH

The Housing Frenzy Is Over. Now What?

Small model house with a key and house-shaped keychain on a wooden table

Two years ago, Henry County homes went in days, over asking, no contingencies. That’s over. Listings are up, homes sit longer and price reductions are climbing. Median prices haven’t crashed, though. They’ve stabilized.

Buyers have more options and room to negotiate. Sellers need accurate pricing, because overpricing and waiting for a bidding war will cost you.

Why it matters: For most families, a home is their biggest asset. This is your neighborhood and your equity, not a national trend piece.
